My name is Dr. Kevin Baiko, and I would like to represent you in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District.

As a liberty-minded conservative who believes our government should follow its own rule book - The U.S. Constitution - I greatly admired and respected Representative Walter Jones, and was shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely death.  Heaven knows our country needs more legislators like him!  Law makers should be expected to thoughtfully consider and best represent their own constituents.  I am confident I can fill his post honorably, and that's why I'm running to continue his legacy as a statesman in the US House of Representatives.

In summary, I believe we should:

1. Protect & Uphold The Constitution

I fiercely oppose efforts to undermine the integrity of our Republic and its Constitution, most especially its First & Second Amendments. My top priority is to rein in federal policy over-reach and spending.

2. Make America Our Priority

I defend our identity as a nation and the Liberty WE stand for in the world.  OUR government should serve OUR people, and its policies (foreign and domestic) should be in the best interests of its own citizens.   I stand for fortified borders and well-regulated immigration.

3. Keep The Market Free

My goal is to minimize regulation & taxation to maximize economic prosperity.  I support free trade and sound monetary policy.

4. Affirm Family Values

Our society's stability is a direct reflection of the well-being of our families. I oppose governmental programs which undermine healthy family dynamics and the values these dynamics bring to society.

5. End The Drug War Against Cannabis (medical marijuana)

The drug war does far more harm than good, especially when waged against medical cannabis patients.  I stand with the nearly 80% of North Carolinians who support sensible medical cannabis legislation.  I have actively advocated this cause at the State and National levels.

Primary Aftermath

The primary results are in, and though I am now out of this race, I am happy to say my friend Dr. Joan Perry will be advancing to the secondary primary. Joan is genuine. She has a quick mind, a caring heart and was the only one of the other 16 Republican candidates who asked me for information materials about my banner cause, medical cannabis. This learning experience has connected me with influential people in the NC Republican party; some of whom have encouraged me to stay politically active. I plan to ride the momentum of my campaign to change hearts and minds about cannabis in Carolina. Humble thanks to all who supported and helped me in my campaign. When you stand up for what you believe in, the world wins.

Eastern Beacon article: Meet Kevin Baiko

"I’m the only Republican candidate that seems to be concerned about the value of our dollar. A strong dollar will do more to ensure both our prosperity and security than anything else. I’m also the only Republican candidate that wants to end the war on drugs, which is a costly big government war on our own people. I’m also the only Republican that wants to rein in our foreign military involvement. Our military industrial complex is the worst form of corporate welfare. Its costs in terms of national debt and human life are unfathomable. This was a huge concern of Walter Jones, and it should be to whoever wins this election."

The Weed Blog: Kevin Baiko Explains the Politics of Cannabis in North Carolina

"I think elected representatives should actually represent their
constituents. They should put the interests of those in their district over party agendas and even their own ideology. And so I’m running for Congress, not for myself but for a noble cause. I incorporated a cannabis leaf into my campaign logo to stand for compassion, prosperity, liberty and the future. As a candidate I am taking a public stand on behalf of patients, doing all that I can to help ease suffering and save lives. I am running in this special election because the timing coincides directly with the current state medical cannabis bill just introduced. I am using my platform to bring public awareness to the urgency and importance of this issue and to expose our legislators who
refuse to support the bill. If I were to win the election, I would be the only cannabinoid medicine physician serving in US Congress. I would use my position to educate other lawmakers, most especially those in the Republican Party, as to why it is imperative that they get on board."

Outer Banks Voice: Local MD is Not Your Typical GOP Candidate

“Liberty is my prime directive and it informs my approach to every issue including drug policy. So that’s one of two areas I think sets me apart the most — wanting to end the drug war because I think it does more harm than good.

The other issue and its coupled with the first, and that’s my dedication to the concept of representation....

I would aspire to be a respected member of the Liberty Caucus as was Walter Jones and I would hold myself and our federal government to its rule book — the Constitution. That would be my mandate. And I would approach every issue with liberty in mind.

However, I do think it’s important to place my constituents above my own ideology, my own party and any other special interests and I would approach every issue in what their issues and needs are.”
